6 Crazy Fun Facts You Need To Know About Perfumes

Smelling great is a must! Typically, you will go to the ends of the earth just to make sure fabulous scents are radiating from you. We are all too familiar with the trials and tribulations of splurging and owning perfumes. Worse still, there are those earth-shattering moments when someone ‘dunks’ themselves in your expensive high-end scent. Before you overindulge on your favourite perfume here are some facts you need to know about fragrances.
Ever wondered why Tom Ford or La vie est Belle smells great on your friend but it`s not quite the same when you wear it? Newsflash!! The same fragrance smells differently on different individuals. Why? Sweat, environment and skin chemistry are just some different factors that play a huge role in how your perfume smells.
Everyone wants to make a strong statement with their expensive high end perfume. The truth is you don`t need to douse yourself in your favourite fragrance for it to last longer. Moisturise your skin with scent free moisturiser such as petroleum jelly or oils before spritzing on your favourite perfume. Focus application of the jelly on your pulse points, which are your wrists, neck, inside elbows, behind knees, and on ankles
Applying perfume on the pulse areas is key. Pulse points are locations on the body where the blood vessels are closest to the skin- Spritz perfume on the inner wrists, base of your neck, behind your earlobes, and your inner elbows. These spots generate heat, which help to ramp up the fragrance by radiating it from your skin into the air.
We have seen this a million times and always found rubbing wrists together super cringe worthy. Friction will cause the top notes (or the scents you smell in the first five minutes of applying perfume) to fade faster and your perfume won’t last as long. In short, you lose the scent. Applying perfume on the wrists is correct but rubbing wrists together is a disservice to your perfume.
As the seasons change, so should your fragrance. Wondering why? Each season has its own feelings and emotions, and these go with different scents. On chilly days, rich and spicy exotic scents almost give you a feeling of warmth. Cold temperatures reduce the impact of scents. Summer has a lot going on, flowers are blossoming fruits are ripening and the heat heightens scents. It’s then wise to ease up on the scent by going lighter on application and choice of scent .Wear fragrances that blend with the environment e.g. citrus and flowery scents.
Time for a refresher course in French. You’ve probably come across these words, eau de cologne, eau de toilette, eau de parfum and extrait de parfum .These are categories for fragrance strength/concentration. Perfumes with a higher fragrance concentration contain more perfume oils and less alcohol. Parfum, also known as extrait de parfum or pure perfume, has the highest fragrance concentration. This is followed by Eau de parfum, Eau de toilette (EDT) then eau de cologne and eau fraiche in that order. While eau fraiche has a low fragrance concentration, it does not contain a high amount of alcohol, with the remainder being mostly water.
